About Alaska Backcountry Bike Tours |
||||
Alaska Backcountry Bike Tours came into existence with the novel idea
that local riders with local knowledge could do an improved job of showing
off our great state. We had just come home from a particularly great
ride on the Kenai Peninsula and were discussing how we had seen a van,
loaded with bikes, operated by a company from the Lower 48, running
bike tours on our stomping grounds. Amazed that this company wasn't
taking their clients anywhere but the highway (in Alaska!) we knew that
we could do a better job and show our guests a true Alaskan excursion:
on the trails that we so often rode. Meet our Guides Kent (Jamo) Jameson With over 25 years of mountain biking experience, Jamo is one of our most knowledgeable and skilled guides. Not only has he been riding in Alaska since the early 80’s, Jamo has ridden nearly every one of the “epic” rides from the Rockies to the West and has a story from each one to share with you. His contagious enthusiasm will ensure you extraordinary memories of you days on the trail. Favorite Trail: Upper Russian Lakes
Jenny Hoeger Once Jenny picked up mountain biking there was no limit to her passion for the sport. You will be able to tell that Jenny’s winter job is teaching, as she has made it a goal to study cycling techniques and bike-handling skills and is eager to share that knowledge with our guests. She is known for her enthusiasm, attention to detail and patience. Jenny’s personal interests include road biking, skate skiing and trail running. Favorite Trail: The Rooty Trail and Mooseberry Mesa
Jill Valarius Do not let Jill’s easygoing manner fool you, underneath that relaxed approach is a competitive athlete-just one whose primary goal is to have fun, no matter what she is doing. Her infectious belief that you can “just do it” will have you smiling as you wind your way down the trail. Jill has a natural talent for encouraging guests to test their limits and realize that they are capable of much more than they ever thought. Favorite Trail: Lost Lake Jeff (Swami) Swanstrum Jeff’s humor and enthusiasm for mountain biking is contagious. He has ridden and raced all over the world before finally ending up in Alaska. After riding Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula his first summer in Alaska his top-ten list completely changed to include four new trails - four trails that happen to be the ones we ride on our 5-day epic. Besides riding his single speed Jeff’s other passions include kayaking, skate skiing and woodworking. Dallas Sutton As a life long Alaskan, Dallas is best noted for his in depth knowledge of Alaskan history, flora and fauna. Backed by his familiarity and appreciation for Alaska culture, Dallas is an excellent guide. He will entertain you and enrich your journey with his stories of his life as a young fur trapper in Alaska’s interior or exciting tales of mountain biking and road biking all over the state. Dallas lives to ride and like all our guides can be found riding year round no matter the conditions.
