About Alaska Backcountry Bike Tours

Owned and operated by Alaskan cyclists,
Tony and Julie Berberich

Alaska Backcountry Bike Tours came into existence with the novel idea that local riders with local knowledge could do an improved job of showing off our great state. We had just come home from a particularly great ride on the Kenai Peninsula and were discussing how we had seen a van, loaded with bikes, operated by a company from the Lower 48, running bike tours on our stomping grounds. Amazed that this company wasn't taking their clients anywhere but the highway (in Alaska!) we knew that we could do a better job and show our guests a true Alaskan excursion: on the trails that we so often rode.

Our love of Alaska and the single-track trails we ride allowed us to plan trips that could offer life changing adventures in the backcountry of Alaska! So, we started our first tours in the summer of 1999 and each year we have the pleasure of meeting more and more new people and showing them the special places that we love to ride in Alaska.

Jill has a natural talent for encouraging guests to test their limits and realize that they are capable of much more than they ever thought.
